Most people have encountered somebody who isn’t black acting SO hard to be, and what makes it funny is the incongruity. Then you hang out with that person, and sometimes it’s Malibu’s Most Wanted, which makes it funnier. But sometimes you see everybody around them legit talking like that. I have no idea which it is for Awkwafina, but reading your commentary and this strand shows how conflicted we are as a nation: we don’t want stereotypically, over-the-top “black” roles for a black actress….unless an Asian plays it. Seriously, would anybody here have NOT cringed seeing a black woman play Awkwafina’s role in CRA?
